Food trip in Pekalongan

December 2010, my family and i traveled to west of java. We stayed in a small city called Pekalongan. It is often called as Batik city because it's where batik pekalongan come from. The reason why we went here it was because of my dad's business trip. It wasn't that bad, because we got to have our own trip as well.

We stayed in a Chinese hotel, so we got to eat delicious crispy frogs. Some people have phobias of height or small room, but my phobia is actually frogs. I hate the fact that frogs has slimy skin and fat butt. yes, i just hate frogs. These crispy frogs is exceptional. They're awesome and tasted so good!

Tv was on, because we were watching football match between Indonesia and Malaysia. Here in Indonesia, Football is a big deal. People would actually wake up at 3 am just to watch their favorite team. I wouldn't do that because i don't have favorite team. well, as of this moment, Football and fried frogs is a good deal for me.

When morning came, we hit the road to go food tripping. It was a hot sunny day and there's nothing better than a bowl of es campur (mixed ice). It has durian flesh, coconut flesh, black jelly, pandan syrup and of course ice in one bowl.

For starter, we had Tempe mendoan and pecel. For those of you who doesn't know what's tempe, you may click the link. It is one of Indonesian Primary food for commoners. Mendoan is a Javanese cooking of tempe using flour and seasoning then they fried it. Pecel is Javanese salad with peanut sauce seasoning. it's definitely healty for everybody.

And finally the main course is deep fried local chicken and pe-te with sambal. Pe-te is some kind of vegetable here in Indonesia. Some people may not like Pe-te because it made your mouth smells after eating it. it has a bit of bitter taste but it complimented the saltiness of the chicken and sweet spicy of sambal if you eat it all together with warm rice. When i saw the sambal, i was kind of hesitated to eat because of the bright red color. i thought i would be as spicy as hell. but then, when i tried it, it wasn't that bad. It's spicy and sweet at the same time. Javanese are tend to choose sweet than spicy, so don't be afraid if you go inside Javanese restaurant.

Cendrawasih Dance

Back in manila, me and my friend performed Indonesian dance for Indonesian Embassy event. This was for the pre-independence day held in Diamond Hotel, Manila. The dance that we performed was a Balinese dance called Cendrawasih dance. it's a dance that imitated two peacock birds. Performing a traditional dance in front of foreigners is one of a kind experience i have ever had. it brought out different the feeling when you see them amazed by the costumes and the movements. if you're wondering where did i learned to dance, it started when i was a kid. my mom used to put me in traditional dance classes. Although i wished, she would have put me in ballet class or something. but it all worth it.

The fun part about this is you get to eat in the hotel buffet for free. I took a plate full of salad with different dressings and cheese. it's heaven for me. Vegetables is hard to get and quite expensive, here in manila. My cravings for veggies was paid off.

For the make up, as always, i did it by my self. The product that i used is PAC by Martha Tilaar. Their color is so vibrant and suitable for performances like this.
The pictures is taken mostly by Putu Vida

My pancake

After so many years, my childhood best friends and i are finally reunited. Meet two of my elementary bff (best friend forever) Laras and Marsha . Back in Elementary years, we were so close than you ever imagine. Years went by and we finally met in the collage year.  There might be a little bit changes in our appearance, but personalities ain't changed at all. They are still the girls i met back in elementary years.
So, two days after my flight from manila, we set a date to meet each other. This is actually the second time we met since i moved to manila. The first time was in my first year i stayed in manila, during my summer vacation in Jakarta. now since i have finished my college, i returned home to Jakarta and it felt so wonderful got to meet them.
We had dinner in My Pancake that is located in Cilandak Town Square, Jakarta Indonesia. They both had pasta, while i chose Fish and chips. In the end, we had a black delight pancake and waffle for dessert with vanilla ice cream on top. it was definitely the highlight of the night. We were still craving for some more dessert, so then we went to have yogurt at Jco .

i don't care how little friends i have, but to have one like them is a gift.
